Slowly but surely (from Wikipedia)

If you are an artist, you very likely have a God-sized dream. You want to bring your art to others, so they may be moved by it and find their way closer to God, especially if you have come to terms with what God’s dream for you is instead of pursuing your own. God takes us through a literal wilderness before we arrive where He desires to change us from the inside out. Again during my morning devotions, I was stirred by another verse that brought home how long and even painful, yet 100% necessary this process is to us as God-chasers and artists. Deuteronomy 7:22 says,

“The LORD your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once, otherwise the wild animals would multiply too quickly for you.”

When we are striving to realize our dreams, we often look forward to a single miraculous event or contact that will “make it all happen.” We’ve been lured by the temptation of an “overnight success,” when in reality those are incredibly rare and usually really bad for us. Instead, just like with the Israelites, who were preparing to enter the promised land, God works in a similar way with us, building our way to our God-given dreams little by little while making sure that we learn to trust Him fully and building our character to the point where He can trust us to stay faithful once we reach them. I love my friend’s advice from some time ago, “God will move in small steps, so that by the time you arrive, you can’t even see how you got there and you realize that only God could have done it.” So rejoice over every little step and remember, it is God who makes them possible all the way to the realization of you God-sized dream!
