You’re My Everything

It’s the words You speak; it’s the life You bring
When I let You in
It’s the hope You give; it’s the love I live
When You come within

You’re my everything; You’re the song I sing
You’re the one I give my life to now
You’re the King of Kings, Lord of all things
I bow down before you now

It’s the way You breathe the whisper in my ear
And I know you are near
It’s the way You move across my brokenness
And take away the fear

You’re everything, You’re everything

Slowly but surely (from Wikipedia)

If you are an artist, you very likely have a God-sized dream. You want to bring your art to others, so they may be moved by it and find their way closer to God, especially if you have come to terms with what God’s dream for you is instead of pursuing your own. God takes us through a literal wilderness before we arrive where He desires to change us from the inside out. Again during my morning devotions, I was stirred by another verse that brought home how long and even painful, yet 100% necessary this process is to us as God-chasers and artists. Deuteronomy 7:22 says,

“The LORD your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once, otherwise the wild animals would multiply too quickly for you.”

When we are striving to realize our dreams, we often look forward to a single miraculous event or contact that will “make it all happen.” We’ve been lured by the temptation of an “overnight success,” when in reality those are incredibly rare and usually really bad for us. Instead, just like with the Israelites, who were preparing to enter the promised land, God works in a similar way with us, building our way to our God-given dreams little by little while making sure that we learn to trust Him fully and building our character to the point where He can trust us to stay faithful once we reach them. I love my friend’s advice from some time ago, “God will move in small steps, so that by the time you arrive, you can’t even see how you got there and you realize that only God could have done it.” So rejoice over every little step and remember, it is God who makes them possible all the way to the realization of you God-sized dream!

Anyone chasing a God-sized dream knows it’s not an easy path to follow. Here’s some thoughts on what I’ve learned chasing mine and from my morning devotions in Deuteronomy 1:19 that says, “Then, just as the LORD our God commanded us, we left Mount Sinai and traveled through the great and terrifying wilderness, as you yourselves remember, and headed toward the hill country of the Amorites. ”

Do you have a dream bigger than yourself? Do you feel deserted and alone? Do you feel defeated, discouraged and ready to quit, and are there insurmountable obstacles ahead of you? Congratulations, you’re on the right path! Just like Israel, God will lead you through the wilderness to prepare you for the promised land. He will give you everything you need, but nothing more. He will shape your character there for as long as it takes, and the best thing you can do is to submit and allow Him to change your heart. Hang on to your dream, but allow God to shape it into His, removing your selfish ideas from it and turning into a blessing for others. Don’t compare you situation to others, either. You don’t know the wilderness they’ve walked through! And remember that you’re not alone in the wilderness, it’s time to lean into the trusted and safe people around you to make it through.

The Promised Land (image by Wikipedia)

God is talking to me about reaching the promised land during my morning devotions on YouVersion. I am really stirred by God-given dreams and the courage it takes to pursue them while battling the giants that are trying to prevent you from reaching them! The story of the Israelites in the wilderness really speaks to me, and if you have a God-sized dream and haven’t read the book The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkerson, it’s time you do it!

This morning I was reading Numbers 32:17, where some of the Israelites promised to fight and help the others get to the promised land:

“Then we will arm ourselves and lead our fellow Israelites into battle until we have brought them safely to their land. ”

As you faithfully chase your God-given dreams, the day will come when you will enter the land God has promised you! Entering it requires preparation, and nobody can do it alone. In fact, one of the ways to recognize the right path is that you have the support of key people that mysteriously keep having your back, no matter how crazy you dream might seem! These people stick around, and sometimes God will prune that bunch, because only He knows what lies ahead. It is painful, but He is testing our faith and providing exactly what we need to reach the promised land! These people can be believers and non-believers, I have been blessed with both in an incredible way. Preparing to release new worship songs by Waiting For Daybreak, God has brought along my brilliant co-producer Kirke, mixer Brian, and mastering engineer Dale. Working with them is incredible, and it seems that despite whatever curve balls I might throw at them, their support never wavers. It is a God thing, and the promised land lies ahead. So does yours!

dramatic dreamI was doing my morning devotions today with YouVersion and came across something I wanted to share with you. Mark 9: 23-24 just jumped out and led me to think about our dreams:

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

Jesus’ words, “Anything is possible if you believe” are a big challenge in our culture, where seeing is believing. We are called to pursue God-sized dreams that put us on a path in the wilderness, where we are to keep planting seeds without seeing anything grow for ages while battling giants like lack of resources, ridicule of others, desperation and giving up. We are also called to show our faith and ask for God to help us with our unbelief, and just like Jesus healed the man’s son, He is waiting for our hearts to become ready to enter into the promised land He has for us. Have a God-sized dream? Never give up and don’t stop pursuing it! Remember His promises!
